"Love Your Island" Day
For close to 100 volunteers, Valentine's Day was also "Love Your Island Day" here on Isla Mujeres. Starting at 8:00 A.M., folks gathered at the entrance to Guadalupana, grabbed jumbo garbage bags, and began picking up garbage on both sides of the road and on the beach for about a half mile. Within two hours our teams had collected 63 bags of garbage. This was a wonderful community effort; a collaboration between Isleños, Expats, and even some tourists! Most of the volunteers were local residents, among them parents and teenagers of poverty stricken families. Spirits were high and everyone was clearly proud of what they had accomplished. On behalf of Keys4life and everyone who played a part, we'd like to say THANK YOU for the support, encouragement, and camaraderie that grew out of this collaborative endeavor to to keep Isla Mujeres an island paradise!
