Dear friends of Keys4Life,

We trust that you are safe, healthy, and spending as much time as possible with loved ones during these challenging times!

We want to give you a realistic look at what’s happening these days to the families in Isla Mujeres that you so lovingly and generously have supported.

COVID-19 cases still exist in Isla Mujeres, but with precautions in place, our little island is opening itself back up to tourism again, the very backbone of the local economy. Since April 2020, the near-universal unemployment among struggling families whose wage earners are waiters, cooks, store clerks, housecleaners, gardeners, fishermen, and construction workers, has left a very large portion of the population without income and food. They have no savings, no regular paycheck, inadequate health insurance coverage, and mounting bills that have gone unpaid.

Here at Keys 4 Life, we have always focused our efforts on improving the lives of impoverished families in Isla Mujeres. Now, these families are faced with a calamitous situation where government assistance is not available, jobs are hard to find, and putting food on the table is a challenge that often cannot be met.

Thanks to the dedicated work of our Project Manager Dany Trejo, we have been able to provide more than 3,375 bags of food to these families since April 2020. Each pantry contains enough food and household supplies to support a family of 4 for 1-2 weeks at a cost of $10.00 USD per pantry. Many families stretch this out to last several weeks or more.

Our goal is to raise $30,000.

With the help of our faithful donors and generous people like you, we will be able to keep food on the tables of many desperate families.  This will help them survive until tourism revives, short-term residents return, and the job market begins to open up.

We deeply appreciate any help you can give us to address this severe humanitarian crisis on our beloved island of Isla Mujeres.

Thank you so much, and may bless you for your generosity and prayers!

Together we can bring hope to those who need it most!

At Keys 4 Life, we aim to rebuild hope where it's been damaged or lost.  We work with those in need, those who are underprivileged, and those who are under served.  Our focus lies on community efforts including small scale construction projects, painting and cleanup, providing shelter and food, aiding in spiritual awareness, and affording educational opportunities.

Our Mission:

To provide resources for children from low income families to access proper nutrition, basic human needs, educational opportunities, and leadership training in the four "KEY" areas of life: Spiritual, Educational, Emotional, and Physical.

Empty stomachs hurt. They break concentration and make the future seem impossible. Giving food, clothing, and shelter is essential to creating a healthy life.

Volunteers at our Middle School Painting Party!

Thank you to all the volunteers who spent their morning scraping, sweeping, cleaning, brushing, pouring and rolling PAINT at the Isla Mujeres Middle School!  Our group gave a sweet makeover to the outside of two classroom buildings and half of another.  We also painted the inside of the boys and girls bathrooms. In addition, we hired a plumber to fix all the toilet flushing mechanisms which were broken, and replaced the main water pump and pipes supplying water to the school campus.

"Love Your Island Day" a Huge Success!

There's a special bonding that occurs when people from different walks of life and different cultures come together to work side by side for a common goal. It's been wonderful to experience the camaraderie that's developed between members of the expat community and local residents who teamed up to improve the quality of life for everyone here on beautiful Isla Mujeres. Whoever thought that picking up garbage would be a fun group activity! 63 jumbo garbage bags were filled that morning. We've made a good start, but there's much more work to be done.

Additional clean-up days are being planned.
